Gemstones Shapes

Gemstones come in a wide variety of shapes as well as colour shades. The most commonly used gemstones have a faceted cut, but in our goldsmith studio SALABA we also offer atypical gemstone shapes. Write us your idea!

Stone cuts are most often divided into lenticular and faceted.

We further divide lenticular cuts or muggles, lenticulars, and cabochons into low lenticulars or tall cabochons, or flat tables. This type of cut is interesting for its smooth and shiny surface, which allows the colour, texture, and light properties of the stone to stand out.

Almost any gemstone can be cut into muggles, from ruby and emerald to agate and quartz. But most often we meet muggles with opals, corals, amber, or tiger's or cat's eye, and other opaque precious stones. Muggle shapes can be different - round, square, but the most common are ovals.

Faceted cuts are the most common and most desirable for transparent stones, as they best break down the colours and optical properties of individual gemstones. It is divided into round and square cuts. All gemstones are cut to the most common brilliant cut, but there are other less familiar cuts.

We normally set, for example, oval gemstones, angular gemstones - the so-called princess, trillion - triangle shape, cushion - reminiscent of a pillow and many others!
